About the Artist:
One of the most electrifying and passionate accordionists performing today, Mingo Saldivar is known as "the Dancing Cowboy" for his energetic dancing moves and his trademark red cowboy boots. His unique dancing on stage has moved fans to name his style of dance: some call it "the Mingo Shuffle" or "MingoMania". When he performs, fans go from dancing to his music to getting close to the stage, mesmerized by his stage presence and his fast paced accordion rifts that resonate a blues/rock and country influence.

A San Antonio, Texas native, Mingo Saldivar has been an established conjunto artist since 1947 and was a member of one of the most important pioneering conjunto ensembles early in his career, Los Guadalupanos, where he initially performed the tololoche (stand up bass). After a stint in the military, where he was greatly influenced by country music, Mingo began experimenting by writing original bilingual songs and by taking country standards, translating them to Spanish or making them bilingual, and infusing them with his progressive conjunto style. In 1970, he was the accordionist for the popular Grupo Carta Blanco before forming his own band in the mid-70's- Los Tremendos Cuarto Espadas- still his band to this day.

Among his many accomplishments, Mingo Saldivar has performed at Presidential Inaugural celebrations, at Carnegie Hall, and at the National Folk Festival. He has toured extensively throughout the United States and world-wide, including performances in Japan, Africa, France, Jordan, and Israel. He received a Grammy nomination in 1992 and was inducted into the Conjunto Hall of Fame in 1997.
